The 1960’s was the time of the mini-skirt thanks to Mary Quant. But, was much notice taken of men’s fashion at this time? Well mens trousers were very tight in the early sixties with 10 or 12 inch bottoms. By the mid-sixties they had become flared. Flared trousers are still very popular today especially with the women.
Pop groups were a huge influence on men and women’s fashions and mens trousers were certainly no exception. The Rolling Stones inspired teenagers to wear the same outfits as the group and this included flared jeans. Before that The Beatles influenced the younger generation in much the same way with a different style of trousers and suits altogether.
But, it was the flared mens trousers that continued to stay popular throughout the 1960’s whilst women’s fashion continued to change several times over. Now, men’s fashion isn’t so much inspired by pop groups as they used to be but rather from all over the world. New trends for mens trousers can also be started by the average man or teenager by how they decide to wear their clothes e.g. layering or wearing their trousers half way down their butts.
