According to a new report published by telecoms analyst firm, Analysys Mason, mobile broadband could result in significant savings for small businesses.

The report, which compares mobile broadband to existing connectivity technologies like WiFi, states that not only is mobile broadband more reliable and provides better coverage, it can also end up being cheaper for businesses.

The report says that using a WiFi can result in up to £700 as costs per employee per year for companies. On the other hand, mobile broadband deals are available at as low as £10 per month. This means that a company could save as much as £580 per employee by switching to mobile broadband. Although this amount does not sound that big, when cumulative savings are considered for all employees in a company, this could play a major role in improving the profits of the company and enhancing its competitiveness.

Steve Hilton from Analysys Mason, who is the author of the report, said that mobile broadband has a very short payback period of just six months and it is an example of how simple technology can lead to substantial savings for a business. He added that although currently mobile broadband may be slower than a WiFi connection, its reliability and better coverage more than make up for this shortcoming.
